Art exists in the ‘now’ ~ Fook’s Philosophy
"Follow your dreams.....Life is beautiful" is an ultramodern progressive visual narrative of a rapid evolving global hybrid sub-culture.
I am a South African filmmaker and costume designer, and as the rhetorical argument of whether #ArtisFashionisArt lingers with most Artisans, the fascination and relationship I have nurtured with both are eternal. I lecture workshops at Stadio School of Fashion, on Art references in Fashion Styling for editorial shoots and conceptualising and producing Fashion Films. Styling as a visual narrative, is translated through channelling Historical, Art and Cultural references, as to create a bespoke Fashion ‘look’, captured in an iconic moment of time and space. My inspiration for styling fashion is only made possible by the great masters in the world of Art.
@mrbrainwash express through his art a beautiful world which he envision to see in the series Follow your dreams...Life is beautiful. The artwork "Banksy Thrower", hybridise the contemporary story of merging binary realities of humanity. The Artwork speaks to a visual and sensory Ode to Roy Lichtenstein, Jean Michel Basquiat, Richard Hamilton, Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg and Keith Haring, and to all that's Pop from the Masters.
The Pop Art figures of Haring and Basquiat pays homage to [1] Walter Batisse's Fook Island philosophy. The hybridity of two worlds; the "Island of the Imagination" and the Anarchist’s survival in a harsh metropolitan landscape, are interlaced with Fook’s philosophy that Art exists in the ‘now’, in contrast to the Anarchist’s struggle captured in a moment in time.
The Artwork brings forth the fruition of a reality where life is beautiful and freedom for humanity exist in [2] verismo which constitutes a universal consciousness of [3] “Ubuntu”.
Nuttall (2004), predicted that future globalisation will cultivate a new epoch of youth movement that entail the
"fusion of sartorial, visual and textual cultures which yields a dense interconnectivity between them".
Visual binaries are showcased between the fusion of global and local beliefs, customs and cultures, as hybridity's are negotiated as a form of intersectional identities. New ways of imagining the world evolves, the idea of creating a new identity, community and belonging emerge as heritage and contemporary ideas are fused to create a new way of being (Mbembe, A. 2007). [1]Fook "Island of the Imagination" was a materialisation of South African artist Walter Battiss' philosophy for which he created a map, imaginary people, plants, animals, a history as well as a set of postage stamps, currency, passports and driver's licenses. Batiss created a Fookian language complete with a mother tongue of semiotics, alphabet and dialect. This utopian 'island' was a composite of the many islands he visited – which included Zanzibar, the Seychelles, Madagascar, Fiji, Hawaii, Samoa, the Greek Isles and the Comores – blended together in his customary imaginative fashion. In Battiss' words, "It is something that does not exist. I thought that I would take an island – the island that is inside all of us. I would turn this island into a real thing ... I would give it a name". Fook was a result of his fertile imagination and his opposition to the Conceptualist Art movement of the 1960s and 70s, in Europe and America. The movement showcased the construction of Art being confined in a 'moment' in which it was created. He believed to the contrary that all art exists in the ‘now’ and this he manifested through Fook Island, which was always in the ‘now’ and always an essential part of reality.
